Arrival by public transport

Dortmund university can be reached by busses number 440, 447, 449, 480 and by "S-Bahn" S1. "Am Gardenkamp" (bus number 440) and "Eichlinghofen H-Bahn" (busses number 440, 449) are the bus stops closest to the building of the IUL. The bus stops of busses number 447 and 480 are located in the vicinity of the northern campus. On the northern campus you can comfortably use the "H-Bahn" to get to the southern campus (see description below). Timetable information for busses and the "H-Bahn" can be obtained from "Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR)".

  H-Bahn route:
The H-Bahn travels on two main routes. Route number 1 connects the northern campus and the southern campus. Number 2 goes from the S-Bahn station "Dortmund Universitaet" (northern campus) via the southern campus to the bus stop "Eichlinghofen H-Bahn". You have to get off at "Campus Sued" on the southern campus. To find us on the southern campus please have a look at the figure above.

  S-Bahn number S1:
Dortmund - Bochum - Essen - Mühlheim/Ruhr - Duisburg - D-Flughafen - Düsseldorf Hbf
This S-Bahn route connects important cities in the Ruhr Area and stops at "Dortmund Universitaet" on the northern campus. The trip to "Dortmund Hbf" takes about 8 minutes, the trip to "Bochum" takes 15 minutes and the trip to "Duesseldorf Hbf" takes about 70 minutes. The S-Bahn number 1 goes every 20 minutes.

Arrival by German Railways:

The arrival by German Railways can happen either via Dortmund station or via Bochum station. There you can take a taxi or "S-Bahn" number S1 to get to Dortmund university. If you choose to take the S-Bahn you have to get off at "Dortmund Universitaet" and change for the "H-Bahn" which plies between the northern and the southern campus.

Arrival by car:

The southern campus of Dortmund University is located in the close vicinity of the motorway intersection "Dortmund - Eichlinghofen" (A45/E41). For people arriving from Frankfurt or Cologne (A1) this is the appropriate exit. Moreover, it might also be useful for people arriving from the north or east to use the advanced motorways in the Ruhr Area and to choose the mentioned motorway exit instead of exposing to the situation on the municipal roads.

1. Arrival from the south (A1-Cologne, A45-Frankfurt) and the north resp. east (A1 from Hannover, then change for the A2 towards "Gelsenkirchen" at "Kamener Kreuz", eventually change for the A45 towards "Frankfurt" at the motorway intersection "Dortmund Nordwest"):
Exit the motorway at "Dortmund-Eichlinghofen" and drive along "Universitaetsstrasse" towards "Dortmund Universitaet". Turn right into "Stockumer Strasse" at the first large crossroads ("Universitaetsstrasse"/"Stockumer Strasse") and turn left into "Baroper Strasse" after 800m. The building of the IUL is "Gebaeude IV" which is located on the left-hand side after 250m. From the car parks (entranceways 41 and 42) the Chair of Forming Technologies is only a stone's throw away.

2. Arrival from the west (A40-Bochum/Duesseldorf):
Take motorway exit "Dortmund Kley" (before the motorway intersection) and turn into "Borussistrasse" towards "Oespel". Drive along "Borussiastrasse" and you will get to "Stockumer Strasse" in the district "Eichlinghofen" automatically. Turn left into "Baroper Strasse" after the bus stop "Eichlinghofen H-Bahn". The building of the IULis "Gebaeude IV" which is located on the left-hand side after about 250m.

3. Arrival from Dortmund:
If you arrive from Dortmund you should firstly take "Wittekindstrasse" (later: "Krueckenweg") and then turn right into "An der Palmweide" and stay on this road (at "Emil-Figge-Strasse" it is required to use the lane for cars turning left). By doing so you will automatically get to "Baroper Strasse" after a left turn. "Gebaeude IV" (the building of the IUL) is located on the right-hand side close to car-park entranceway number 41.
